STE introduces an MPX/X2 film capacitor rated for 2,000 hours of 85/85 testing
STE NEWS
STE has introduced the MPX/X2 interference-suppression film capacitor, developed for 2,000 hours of testing at 85 °C and 85% RH.
STE has introduced a humidity-resistant MPX/X2 boxed metallized polypropylene film capacitor for EMI suppression in automotive and industrial power electronics. It is designed for across-the-line filtering where AC voltage, heat and humidity all matter.
What the 2,000-hour 85/85 test covers
The announced test applies 350 VAC at 85 °C and 85% relative humidity for 2,000 hours. Voltage and duration belong to the test specification; the term “85/85” alone does not describe an equivalent qualification.
| Parameter | Condition or range |
|---|---|
| Safety class | X2, line-to-neutral connection |
| Construction | Boxed metallized polypropylene film |
| Humidity test | 85 °C / 85% RH / 350 VAC / 2,000 hours |
| Maximum operating temperature | 110 °C |
| Capacitance range | 10 nF–10 μF |
| Lead spacing range | 10–52.5 mm |
Across-the-line EMI filtering
The metallized film construction provides self-healing properties. Intended applications include photovoltaic inverters and on-board chargers (OBCs). Capacitance and package selection depend on the filter design, available space and thermal environment.
The 2,000-hour result describes a test under specified conditions. Service life depends on operating voltage, temperature and environment. Confirm the humidity-resistant variant, capacitance, lead spacing and applicable approvals when selecting a part.
